INVENTORY

Laptop
A portable device a few generations behind the tech more modern folks are used to, mostly good for speaking to people through the network and sending low-quality media files.

Face Thief Mask
Acquired from a face thief who once masqueraded as Yuya.
The dried skin of an unknown young adult's face that once put on exclusively grants Sora that person's appearance- extending to scent and magic meant to detect monsters.
Only one use, max 24 hours. [ ]

Deck
Made up of fusion summon-oriented Duel Monsters cards, in Sora's case based on the "Furnimal" and "Edge Imp" archetypes becoming "Des-Toys".

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION

For the most part, Sora looks exactly like himself due to the mostly humanoid form a Nephilim has. Though he also has a glow underneath his skin and lacks a shadow. One might say the mismatched monster parts he does have looks like a cheap cosplay.

The small wings and lion's tail Sora has in his usual form evokes one of his monsters while crowning the bull horns on his head is a large and intricate halo of blue light. His hair also longer, not quite a full-grown lion's mane but as wild and untamed as one in the back. The fact that it already started out being somewhat spiky didn't help in that regard.

An odor of sanctity diffuses into the air wherever Sora goes, as far as making tears and even his blood smell nice- like hot cocoa with an added sprig of mint.

The mark of the Fourth on Sora so far takes the form of a silver halo free-floating around the base of his tail tuft, with a close resemblance to a friend's bracelet.

(Fog form TBA)

On both forms, Sora has four jagged scars on his left (dueling) arm that run parallel to one another, clearly inflicted by sharp claws.

MONSTER ABILITIES
  • Silent Speed: Ability to travel at nearly the blink of a Demon's teleport while entirely unobserved by a human or monster- if their observer closes their eyes or blinks, the Nephilim is unrestricted until their eyes open again.
  • Monster Strength: Capable of lifting 4x more than the average human
  • Vital Spirit: Lack of need (and ability) to sleep
  • Stigmatic Healing: Capacity to take the existing wounds of others and bring onto themselves instead
  • Fog Form Supression: Granted by the Fourth God, allows during most (but not all) fog conditions for swapping forms at will

  • Holy Magic
  • Force Palm: Channels holy energy into a human's body to expel their soul
  • Penance Stare: At will, brings out and amplifies the regrets of others who stare into his gaze
  • Heavenly Fire: Lights up even brighter to induce awe from humans
  • Drawing a barrier only Nephilim can cross through
  • Conjure and control plasma/lightning
  • Purifying liquids

  • WEAKNESSES
  • Darkness: In complete darkness, Nephilim lose their physical form and become an undefined haze. They have difficulty maintaining their forms in anything less than sunlight.

  • Black Magic: Includes magic used by demons
  • ( codes by whambam )

    Character Information: Wiki

(Note: The wiki consistently uses dub names and terminology once the English dub of a series has been released.

Aside from the name changes seen, such as Sora's surname, the events described on the wiki page are still consistent with that of the original Japanese version.)

    Personality:

Sora comes in two flavors, sugary sweet and deceptively sour. But his true personality sits between these two, in a delicate balance of naughty and nice.

He's genuinely someone who loves all kinds of candy and confectionery, alongside fun things like cute toys, and Yuya's entertainment style of dueling. He even makes efforts to follow in Yuya's own footsteps to an extent while 'studying' under him- reveling in the attention as an entertainer, fully enjoying himself and playing up his childish antics for the audience. Not all of it is an act either; he laughs and pouts as childishly as any little kid would when he's truly relaxed and marvels openly at an entertaining display. Alongside his playful nature, his willingness to approach others in a good mood makes it easy for him to charm and work his way into another's social circle quickly...making his outgoing personality a skill he uses to his advantage.

Don’t be fooled too much by his appearance and attitude, because Sora is actually far more mature with his decision making than he makes himself out to be. He is more than aware of the effect his behavior can have on others, which is exactly why he plays his enjoyment and actions up to eleven wherever it benefits him- and, not for honest reasons.

This attitude is complimented by a derisive nature. While not only exaggerating his childish interests and appearance for an act, he also pokes fun at his opponents, insulting or even outright framing them in negative light such as in his first duel with Shun Kurosaki. He is also overconfident-openly looking down on most dueling techniques outside of his own, laughing and brushing them aside as if they were toys for his amusement. At every opportunity he belittles Masumi, a duelist from LDS and at the top of her class in the Fusion Course, remarking once that her confidence would be hurt if he dueled her and sarcastically praises her skill as being ‘surprisingly’ good. Even outside the matter of skill, this overconfidence is evident; during his first encounter with Yuuto, he playfully notes that they don’t seem to be from Standard (“You're not from here, are you?”) and despite Yuuto angrily countering “Neither are you!”, he merely continues to smile and play it off, as if his paper-thin disguise was as solid as a rock.

With his cheery exaggerated facade in play, Sora was initially very secretive about his past for logical and dishonest reasons. For the sake of his assigned mission and for himself, he constantly put his wits to use in deflecting inquiries about his origins and abilities- confidently cutting questions off at the head even when his answers were vague deflections at best. While it could be said his friends in the Standard Dimension were simply far too trusting, his wily and adaptive nature shows in how easy it was to miss- his quick decision to go from infiltrating LDS to following Yuya to keep an eye on Yuya's 'pendulum summoning' takes a matter of seconds, while later decisions such as saving Yuzu from Jean Michel's clutches are equally on-the-spot acts requiring quick thinking.

His hidden, less savory side becomes clear when his status as a soldier of Academia is forced forward in his duel against Shun Kurosaki, and when his skill and honor is questioned. With his allies' morals brought to light, he lashes out in an increasingly frenzied fit of proud rage, wearing the face of a crazed maniac. When he has mostly (but not completely) recovered from the injuries sustained in said match, Sora is quick to form an obsession with getting vengeance for his initial loss, convincing himself with the belief that he could have defeated him if he had taken their fight more “seriously” from the start. Even when given a second chance from the Professor (whose word is said to be law) by being ordered to retrieve Serena from the Standard dimension, Sora seizes the chance to have a rematch with Shun (and win) over searching for his target when the opportunity presents itself.

These behaviors seem to stem from the indoctrinating teachings of the Fusion Dimension’s Academia - a prideful desire to put the enemy in their place, to the point where soldiers such as Sora are expected to push themselves beyond all healthy limits and believe that there isn’t a “next time” in real battles (especially for those that got a taste of their own “carding” technology from the likes of Shun and Kaito). His childish tantrums while being treated for his injuries at Academia, alongside his accusations and claims toward both Shun and Yuto (the XYZ duelist he faced before being recalled back there mid-duel) display this especially well. With how heavily these behaviors are tied to his loyalty to Academia however, this aspect of him simmers down as he comes to make the decision to defect. While still dedicated and vengeful to a dangerous point, his days of manic laughter in the name of 'The Professor' seem to be over...for now.

With his sour side toning down to reveal a more serious, and mature core to him, Sora proves himself to be faithful to those that he considers a friend, and eventually to their morals as well. For an amount of time, he wavered between his ingrained loyalty to Academia and the camaraderie of his first true companions- notably, Yuzu. From the time he connects with her through tutoring her in his form of Fusion summoning, he seems to view her as someone close- questioning his orders to seek and reclaim someone with an identical face to her, as well as fleeing back to his own dimension the minute it seems she could have been taken as a captive. We see him bargain with himself to the bitter end over this matter, and while his more serious way of thinking can already be seen in his decisions as a soldier, it is his final decision after so much thought over time that unveils his maturity.

He goes from considering a trade of Serena for Yuzu to realizing from Yuuya's words that his side (Academia) is not what he has allowed himself to believe. He finally chooses to act on 'what is right', and this aspect of him does not simply end with his friends- it covers even his past transgressions.

When he is confronted by Tsukikage in the midst of helping Yuzu and a group of children (Crow's adoptees) escape City Security, he has yet to find the strength to say for sure that he has defected. However, being confronted by the one whose brother he previously carded, he not only sincerely apologizes for his actions but even offers Tsukikage the chance to do with him as he wishes- provided Yuzu and the children are taken safely away to where Security would not find them. He willingly places his life in Tsukikage's hands-showing that, perhaps his words far earlier in the series when he initially considered teaching Yuzu fusion summoning, could have some merit.

"My biggest weakness really is my kindness, isn't it?"

    Development from Ryslig:
Being thrown into Ryslig has been quite a journey for both Sora's body and mind.

He began as a Shade and had a relatively easy time with his changes before getting horribly tortured and murdered by an old foe from home. His mischievous attitude blended well with the occasionally vengeful shade nature, the mix making for a crafty stalker hiding in the shadows of your bed or inside your stuffed toys- eager to jumpscare both friends and food alike.

Beneath his new fickle attitude towards life, however, was a desperate need to bottle up his troubles and deflect anyone who attempted to see past his shell. Which is the opposite of healthy for someone with their own share of traumas... but at the same time understandable for a child raised in a militaristic and cutthroat institution, a child that was also a highly probable target for bullying and/or hazing thanks to his unassuming stature and semi-cutesy deck.

After the event where the Fourth God used his control over the laptops to thrust a number of people into a randomly connected network of mental dreamscapes, Sora was one of those particularly displeased despite whatever intentions the "young" god had for doing it. Nobody probes into his mind and gets away with it.

Only because their mun wanted a new change of pace... One of the Fog and Fourth Gods’ clashes resulted in some new monster types being introduced and the chance of getting randomly shuffled into a new type. Sora briefly turned human again, but soon enough went through painful changes into a vaguely cat-themed Simulacrum.

Having just a boxy screen for a head, needless to say, he didn’t take being deprived of his sweets well. Although more emotionally volatile during this time, Sora still kept the roots of his inner turmoil away from those who cared about his well-being.

Sora forgot his beef with Elias after an encounter with a temporary arrival that became one of quite a few memory-eating electrical beings. Sometime later the robot went on to become one of Elia's followers just because it was the fastest way to manage his own fog form. Eventually, the eaten memories came back to him, so Sora's goals shifted even less from the Fourth's favor...

Meanwhile, as soon as the moment arrived when Sora had enough coins stockpiled, the time finally arrived to permanently change his monster type. Once the quest and subsequent transformation were complete, the form came with a bittersweet token from the Fourth God to remember a friend by- a small halo for his Nephilim lion tail in the shape of Yuzu's bracelet.

...Sora would also use it to remind himself why he'd never forgiven Elias.

Who knows if he'll open up to someone about everything in his past- outside of hints or vague explanations to even his closest friends.

But that's totally the least of his problems concerning friendships.
